CheckCompanion

Two names on your insurance check?
Here's why — and exactly what to do.

When your home is damaged and you have a mortgage, the insurance company makes the claim check payable to you and your mortgage company. Getting your own money released means endorsing the check, mailing it in, and following your servicer's process — which nobody explains in plain English. We do.

Free. No account, no password, nothing to install. Answer five questions, get a checklist you can share or print.

What actually happens to your check

  1. 1

Everyone signs, you mail it in

Every name on the check endorses the back, and it goes to your servicer's claim processor — with tracking.

  2. 2

Small claim? Money comes right back

Below your servicer's threshold, they endorse it and return the full amount, usually within a couple of weeks.

  3. 3

    Big claim? Released in stages

Larger claims are held and paid out as repairs are done — paperwork, then inspections, then the final check.

Helping a parent through this?

Your roadmap lives at a private link you can share. You see the same checklist your mom or dad sees, mark steps done from anywhere, and know exactly what the next phone call is — no account needed on either end.

What we will never do

  • Never ask for passwords — not your bank, not the claim portal, not your insurance login.
  • Never touch your money — the check goes between you, your servicer, and your contractor. We just explain the steps.
  • Never negotiate your claim — that's a licensed public adjuster's job. We're the manual, not a middleman.
